The Asterix Project

Les Éditions Albert René is the publisher for Asterix series.


LEAR was created in 1979 by Albert Uderzo, two years after the death of his colleague René Goscinny. This company started with a capital of 200,000 francs (capital up to 20% to Gilberte Goscinny). Through this company, Uderzo was able to manage the world of asterix with a greator degree of freedom, something that he desired while  under Dargaud. Albert Uderzo recruited a secretary (Germaine Delsalle) and a manager (Christian Philippsen) 3.

Albert René Editions were directed by Sylvie Uderzo, daughter of Albert Uderzo, until 2007. On December 12, 2008, the company Hachette Livre acquired 60% of the shares of the publishing house (owned 40 % by Albert Uderzo and 20% by Anne Goscinny, René's daughter5), before taking 100% control of it following the acquisition of the shares held by Sylvie Uderzo (who owned 40%).
