Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir is a third-person action-adventure game published by Microids and developed by OSome Studio.[1] It was released on November 21, 2019 and is the sequel to Asterix & Obelix XXL 2.
Synopsis[]
One day, the village druid, Getafix, receives a strange letter. It is from Avina Gandir, the high priestess of Thule! She warns the druid of a grave threat to his people and asks him to take a mysterious Menhir out of its hiding place.[2]
Plot[]
When Asterix and Obelix retrieve Postaldistrix’s post, which was stolen by the Romans, and he brings a letter to Getafix, the druid learns that the Romans had captured his old friend from Thule - Avina, the creator of the Crystal Menhir. The Menhir was already hidden in Getafix’s house, as she entrusted it to him, but the shards that give it powers are missing.
Asterix and Obelix takes the Menhir and travel several lands of the Roman Empire with the help of Ekonomikrisis, who takes them on board his ship. On the way they find the Crystal Menhir’s shards and restore its powers, as well as confront Marcus Ginantonicus several times, as he wants to steal it.
Late in the game, Asterix and Obelix must fight the army of Julius Caesar himself in Rome, who also wants the Crystal Menhir. After they defeated him, Ginantonicus arrives on a crane, steals the Menhir and freezes them. The Gauls are then locked up in the dungeon, but were freed by Dogmatix. They then find that Avina is also trapped in the same dungeon. They rescue her and travel back to the village, which is being destroyed by the Romans with Ginantonicus and Caesar in charge. Getafix has been frozen and there are no supplies for the magic potion. Ginantonicus suddenly betrays Caesar and reveals his plan to take over Rome. Asterix and Obelix confront Ginantonicus on his crane, trying to take the Crystal Menhir from him and break the crane. Offscreen, Avina defrosts Getafix.
After the Gauls defeated Ginantonicus, Caesar is also defrosted. As the Gauls had taken care of Ginantonicus, he wants to show them his gratitude by granting a wish of theirs, and he agrees to send the Romans out of Thule. Avina makes a request to Asterix and Obelix to destroy the Crystal Menhir, since it has been proven to be dangerous in the wrong hands, and she gifts Getafix a sickle which seems to be made of stone, and the rest of the Gaulish village celebrate their victory with a banquet.
